Combat
Arm:
In general, the strength of a brigade is equal to its
manpower as modified by the above chart. A cavalry or
infantry brigade with a battery attached has 100 of its
men modified as artillerists and the rest of its strength
modified by the brigade type. Artillery attached to
infantry brigades is field artillery; artillery attached
to cavalry brigades is horse. Artillery brigades must have
at least 50 men to fire one battery. Artillery brigades
with fewer than 50 men fight as poorly armed infantry and
are modified as x0.5. Artillery brigades can use up to 100
men per battery. Artillery brigades with more than 100 men
per battery have 100 men for each battery modified as
artillerists and the rest modified as x0.5. All other
artillery brigades have strength equal to their manpower
as modified by the above chart. Weapons Units with upgraded weapons (rifles for infantry and
artillery, breechloaders for cavalry) get a bonus: +10%
for infantry, +20% for artillery, +10% for cavalry unless
no enemy infantry is engaged, in which case +25%.
Batteries attached to IN and CV units get the bonus for
artillery applied to 100 men; the rest of the brigade gets
the infantry or cavalry bonus. IN batteries are LA, CV
batteries are HA. Combat Attitude:
Tactical Square Defensive Rating:
Fortification Rating
Fortifications protect against attacks in the direction they face, and one adjacent direction to either side. A fortification facing north protects against attacks from NE, N, and NW; a fortification facing southeast protects against attacks from E, SE, and S. Communications: Out of communications: -20% |
Unit Quality:
Unit Experience: Bonus = square root(experience)/10 + 0.6 Example values:
Unit Morale: Bonus is equal to (unit morale-50)/3. For example: morale of 50 gives no change, morale of 80 gives 10% bonus, morale of 20 gives 10% penalty. Terrain:
Attached batteries count as artillery for the purpose of terrain modifiers. Battle Line Modifiers:
Battle line modifiers are applied to the brigade as a whole - attached batteries get the IN/CV modifier, not the artillery modifier. Battle line modifiers do not apply to bombardment. Flanks Turned: In firing phase, units which have turned the enemy's flank gain 20% per flank turned In melee phase, units whose flanks have been turned lose 20% per flank turned Other Modifiers: Tactical movement during the same tactical phase as the battle: siege artillery -75%, other artillery -20%, infantry -20%, cavalry -20%, militia -33%. Attached batteries are artillery for this modifier. Moving in forest terrain adds an additional -20% to all branches. Climbing hill into battle: -20% Fatigue: If fatigue>6, x6/fatigue level Out of ammunition: infantry and cavalry -50%, artillery -90%, attached batteries count as artillery Friendly artillery firing: +10% for infantry and cavalry |
