Enter the the unit ID of the unit whose weapons you want to upgrade. To upgrade only individual arms (smoothbore to rifle for infantry or carbine to breechloader for cavalry) select "Individual arms", to upgrade artillery (smoothbore to rifled) select "Artillery." For IN and CV with attached artillery, you can select "Both" to upgrade both its individual arms and its artillery, or you can upgrade either one and not the other. For artillery units, you should always select "Artillery" or "Both" as artillery units do not have individual arms to upgrade. If you select "Both" and the unit has only one type of weapon, or has both types but only one can be upgraded because the other already has been, then the one type that can be upgraded will be.

Each side's Treasury Secretary, President, and Vice-President are authorized to upgrade the weapons of that side's units. The Secretary of War and the CO or XO of the unit may not do so.
