SLAG/EUWOL Unit Costs

In EUWOL, new units contain battalions of infantry, cavalry, or militia, and batteries of artillery, except for AQ, CQ, and PB units which are always the same size when built. An infantry battalion contains up to 600 men; a cavalry battalion (or squadron) contains up to 300 men; an artillery battery contains up to 100 men; a militia battalion contains 500 men.

An infantry regiment, when built, must contain between three and five battalions, and either 0 or 1 artillery batteries. Thus, its strength must be between 1800 and 3100 men.
A cavalry regiment, when built, must contain between three and five battalions, and either 0 or 1 artillery batteries. Thus, its strength must be between 900 and 1600 men.
An artillery regiment, when build, must contain either three or four batteries. Thus its strength must be between 300 and 400 men.
A militia regiment, when built, must contain between two and four battalions, and no artillery. Thus its strength must be between 1000 and 2000 men.

Batteries attached to infantry regiments are light artillery: batteries attached to cavalry regiments are horse artillery.

The base cost for each unit type assumes the lowest quality weapons; smoothbore muskets, carbines, and artillery. Weapons upgrades increase the build cost but not the active or inactive maintenance costs.

Unit build orders specify the desired strength and number of batteries; the game software automatically assigns battalions and batteries.

The base cost of a battalion or battery of each type of unit, both for building and for maintenance when active or inactive, is as follows:

Upgrading weapons costs (HC, AQ, CQ, PB do not upgrade weapons):

Upgrade 2 for French infantry is to chassepots rather than breechloaders, and for French artillery, to mitrailleuses rather than breechloaders.

The build costs of various regiment types and sizes, with different weapons types (note that HC cannot upgrade weapons so always cost the base amount), is as follows (this list is not complete: the costs of other sizes/weapons can be calculated from the table above and multiplying by the number of battalions and batteries included):
